What Drives VOCs in SCD?

Sticky Clusters of All Blood Cells Are Formed When Selectins Are Overexpressed

In the chronic inflammatory and proadhesive environment associated with SCD, clusters of cells obstruct blood flow, causing vaso-occlusion that can culminate in VOCs

Vaso-occlusion occurs systemically during the lifetime of a patient, and may result in complications, regardless of whether it culminates in a VOC
